KWANKWASO SIGNS BILL ON HOMOSEXUAL

Kwankwaso signs bill on homosexuals

Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has signed into law a bill prescribing a minimum of 14 years jail term for rapists, lesbians and homosexuals in the state.
The new law entitled: “Kano State  Penal Code Amendment Law” was signed by the governor at the 174th session of the Kano State Executive Council meeting, which took place at the Government House yesterday.

Kano State Attorney General, Mr. Maliki Kuliya, who briefed the press on the amended Penal Code explained that, “as from today the minimum punishment for this offence (rape) is 14 years imprisonment.”
The Attorney General expressed hope that the amended law would reduce cases of rape and other related crimes in the state.

He added that other offences such as indecent assault and related behaviours were taken care of by the amended Penal Code, adding that the new law would particularly address cases of abuse of trust by custodians of minors such as teachers.
The governor also signed into law an Appropriation Amendment Law (2014), which involves the sum of N23.7 billion.
