North Central, North East  in Battle for Senate Presidency

High level lobbying for the exalted office of the president of the Senate intensified on Thursday  as the north central and the north east are locked in an epic battle to clinch the number three position.
All Progressive Congress (APC) leaders from the two zones were seen at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja making frantic efforts to persuade the party leadership to zone the office to their respective zones.

North-central zonal chairman of APC, Mr Zakari Ede is leading the long team to persuade the party’s leadership to let his zone retain the office.
It was also learnt that governors from the North-east had agreed to rally round a senator from their zone to clinch the position.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent, Senator Ali Ndume said that all this while the north-central zone had had the privilege of occupying the office while the North-east had never have the privilege of appointing one of its own to the position.

To demonstrate their seriousness, APC leaders from North-central held a strategic meeting on how to outwit their opponents in the quest to push through their position.
Rising from this meeting, they gave copious reasons why the position of the Senate President be retained for the zone in the next political dispensation.
They argued that the zone deserved the position of President of the Senate to compensate the people of the zone for the massive support they gave the party during last general elections.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the zone said that it deserved to be rewarded for its unwavering support for the APC without which the party would not have emerged victorious in the last presidential election.

The leaders said: “Our resolute is borne out of the fact that by every consideration, north central zone deserves to produce the next senate president.”
The communique was signed by the APC North-central Zonal Chairman, Mr Zakari Ede, the Chairman of APC in Kwara state, Hon. Ishola Fulani, Nasarawa APC Chairman, Mr Philips Tatari, Plateau APC Chairman, Mr Latep Daban, Benue APC Chairman, Mr Abba Yaro, Kogi APC Chairman, Alhaji Hardy Ametuo, Federal Capital Territory APC Chairman, Abdulmalik Usman and Niger State APC Chairman, Mr. M.J. Imam.
